Recently, a 48-year-old dorm supervisor who had previously only received a high school diploma was praised by students at Zhejiang University for her standard English level, Qianjiang Evening News reported on Oct. 22, 2019.
Guo Hongping started to work as a dorm supervisor after her daughter was accepted by Zhejiang University last September. Because Guo used to take care of her daughter at home, she found herself at a loose end when her daughter moved away for college. As a result, she decided to get a job nearby.
Although Guo works in a dormitory building less than 200 meters from her daughter's, her life does not revolve around her child as it did before.
Guo said that she enjoys her job as a dorm supervisor, and working at the university inspired her to start studying again.
Whenever Guo had time, she would open an English learning app on her phone and sit at the table to study English. During her practice, she would keep the volume down and speak quietly so as not to disturb the students around her.

Guo Hongping now likes to greet students in English. Gradually, the students in the dormitory came to know that one dorm supervisor could speak English. In addition to studying herself, Guo also encouraged her colleagues to learn a language.
Xiao Lin, a student from Zhejiang University, asked Guo why she studied English. Guo answered with a smile, "I almost forgot my English from when I was a translator before, but now I want to pick it up again."
Originally, Guo Hongping worked in Nokia branch in the Middle East, and was successively assigned to Dubai, Kuwait, Tehran and other cities to translate for customers in the mobile phone maintenance section. In 2000, Guo's daughter was born. To better guide and educate her child, she gave up this excellent job and returned to China.

In April, Guo wrote a translation of Xu Yuanchong's ancient poem "Qingming Festival" on a blackboard in the dormitory building, causing many students to stop and read.
