Feng Xiuling (L) conducts a surgery for an AIDS patient at Henan Infectious Disease Hospital in Zhengzhou, capital of central China's Henan Province, July 31, 2019. Feng Xiuling, 54, is the first doctor to perform surgeries for AIDS patients in Henan. Since 2002, Feng has conducted more than 3,000 surgeries for AIDS patients, in which he has been at risk for exposure to HIV infection for four times. "My job is like walking on a blade," he said. The surgical department Feng is working for performs nearly 800 surgeries annually, of which AIDS patients account for almost two thirds. Surgical requirements are stricter than ordinary hospitals. In addition to numerous surgical barriers, surgeons are highly strained to avoid any intraoperative injuries. "I had made decision to give up, but eventually I insisted on. I need to be responsible for patients since I have chosen this department," Feng said. (Xinhua/Li An)
