(People's Daily Online)    15:58, July 31, 2019

China is expected to see total investments in 5G reach over one million yuan by 2025, according to the Global System for Mobile Communications Association.

A 5G study published by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) forecast that the country’s three domestic network operators, namely China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom, would spend more than 220 billion yuan on 5G equipment in 2020.

China Mobile planned to build over 50,000 5G base stations nationwide in 2019 to provide 5G commercial services in more than 50 cities.

China Telecom declared it would complete 5G commercial deployment in over 40 cities in the country by the end of this year, while China Unicom also launched its own 5G rollout.

It is estimated that the commercial use of 5G will drive more than 8 trillion yuan of information consumption and 10.6 trillion yuan of direct economic output from 2020 to 2025, said Liu Duo, head of the CAICT.

Liu noted that the revenue from the 5G-related network and terminal equipment is expected to hit 450 billion yuan in 2020, and that from 5G-related information services will reach 2.6 trillion yuan by 2030.

Recognized as the latest advance in mobile communications, 5G is expected to support 1 million connected devices per square kilometer.
