The recent agreement between China and the U.S. to restart trade talks has been hailed "a positive move to restore global economic order" by political leaders worldwide. Somphanh Phengkhammy, Vice President of Lao National Assembly and President of the Lao Committee of Peace and Solidarity, told People's Daily Online that this is "the best way to solve differences between China and the U.S."
"The China-US trade war has not only brought negative outcomes to the two nations; it has also dampened the development of world economy. I'm pleased to see that China and the U.S. have made great efforts to solve this problem, and I support further negotiation between the two nations," Somphanh said during a recent event in Beijing, organized by the International Department of the Central Committee of CPC.
Somphanh's comments came on the heel of the G20 held in Japan in June. During the summit, President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to restart economic and trade consultations between their countries based on equality and mutual respect.
"I hope China and the U.S. can resume economic and trade discussions based on equality and mutual respect, protecting the benefits of the two nations, prompting global economy forward," said Somphanh.
The vice president, who is also a member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, also sent his congratulations to the Chinese government and people in light of the upcoming 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. He noted that China's great social and economic achievements over the past decades impressed him, and he is willing to learn the art of state governance from the Communist Party of China (CPC).
"The CPC has reached great achievements in multiple areas, while its huge success in poverty alleviation has amazed me the most. China has created a miracle in poverty alleviation history worldwide, providing valuable experience for other nations," he said.
Establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation ten years ago, bilateral relations and trade between China and Laos have reached a new high. Somphanh told People's Daily Online that the two nations would further strengthen their relationship in the future.
"I have faith in future relations between China and Laos, and I hope the two nations will cooperate in more new areas in the future," he said.
