China unveiled new members of the Fuxing family, the country’s newest and fastest high-speed trains, in Beijing on Monday.
The new trains made their debut in a show that demonstrates the latest advances in technology innovation in China's railway system. They will begin operation in the next few years.
The green-colored CR200J is expected to be the first to hit the tracks with a maximum speed of 160 kilometers per hour. Planned to begin service in January, CR200J will phase out the decades-old rolling stocks.
CR300BF, a blue-colored train can reach 250 kilometers per hour, is going through testing on the route linking Chengdu and Guiyang in mountainous Southwest China and will be open to passengers next year.
A longer version of the fastest Fuxing trains was also made its appearance on Monday. Running at 350 kilometers per hour, it has 17 carriages, an added 7.5 percent in capacity compared to the current version. It’s still unknown when the extended Fuxing train will be put into operation.
Among the newest trains is a smart train that will shuttle between Beijing and Zhangjiakou, the twin host cities of the upcoming Winter Olympics. The train is designed to run in extreme winter weather with less carbon emissions and more automation control system.
