Third highway between Sichuan and Shaanxi opens to traffic

Nine years of hard work finally paid off as the third highway connecting the provinces of Sichuan and Shaanxi in western China opened to traffic on Nov. 22, crossing an east-west arc of mountains, Chinanews.com and CCTV News reported.

The Micang Mountains, located between Bazhong in southwest China’s Sichuan province and Hanzhong in northwest China’s Shaanxi province, were known as a difficult barrier to cross for thousands of years.

The 117.5-kilometer highway has shortened the travel time between the two cities from three and a half hours to just one hour, which has made the trip much more convenient for locals.

The construction was completed in just under nine years. Thanks to the newly opened highway, Sichuan will enjoy an improved highway network and lower costs when it comes to logistics, and accelerate poverty alleviation in the province.
