(People's Daily Online)    15:02, September 19, 2018

Super Typhoon Mangkhut swept over the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and south China’s Guangdong province on Sept. 16, bringing fierce winds and intense rain, and resulting in flooding, damaged buildings, and interruptions to traffic, communications and power supplies.

Thanks to those who stuck to their jobs despite dangers and difficulties, the lives and properties of people in disaster-prone areas were protected, according to the official microblog account of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council.

About 4.15 million people suffered supply interruptions due to the typhoon. China Southern Power Grid deployed nearly 3,000 workers for emergency repair missions. By 6:00 am the next day, 60 percent of affected users had their power restored.

Here are a collection of photos taken during and after the typhoon.

Meng Lingfeng, an operation and maintenance member of staff, holds up fallen communication cables for around two hours to ensure normal traffic flow in Foshan, south China’s Guangdong Province.

Lin Weide continues working in the rain on emergency repairs in Zhongshan, Guangdong Province, although his shoes are full of water.

Wu Ruilian, who is in charge of logistics service at a power supply station in Jiangmen, south China’s Guangdong Province, works late into the night with her little girl asleep beside her.

China Telecom’s Guangdong branch arranged about 7,710 emergency supplies including satellite phones and life jackets, and 5,000 rescue and relief staff.
