People's Daily Comments: The Communist Party of China unveils a new leadership line-up as “dream team” to lead China into a new era

The Communist Party of China (CPC) unveiled a new leadership line-up on October 25, to lead the world's most populous nation toward a great modern socialist country. Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, Li Zhanshu, Wang Yang, Wang Huning, Zhao Leji and Han Zheng were elected as members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the 19th CPC Central Committee. The new leadership is also nicknamed as the “dream team,” as they are going to lead Chinese people to fulfill the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation.

During his 20-minute speech, Xi laid down a roadmap for the next five years. The year of 2018 marks the 40th anniversary of the launch of reform and opening-up. Xi said China will make determined efforts to comprehensively deepen reform and open wider to the world. The year of 2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The CPC will continue the efforts to accomplish all the tasks laid down in the 13th Five-Year Plan, develop new blueprints for China's future, and see the flourishing of all the endeavors, Xi said. Xi also reiterated the goal to establish a moderately prosperous society across all metrics in 2020. He said the Party must remain committed to a people-centered philosophy of development and make steady progress toward enhancing the people's sense of fulfillment and realizing common prosperity for everyone. The CPC will mark its centenary in 2021. Xi said the Party will generate waves of positive energy which can form into a mighty and nationwide force, further driving China's development and progress.

The remark serves as a planned schedule for the “dream team” and it reflects the ambition of China and confidence of the CPC.

Some foreign media concluded that the word “people” was mentioned frequently during the meeting, as well as the last congress. The CPC is more than determined to seek happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation as its aspiration and mission. As President Xi Jinping said, the people are the creators of history. It is to them that we owe all our achievements. “As long as we firmly align ourselves with the people and rely on them, we can and will have boundless energy to forge ahead, come rain or shine." (Li Bin)
