Infinity pool to open beside Water Cube

By Sun Wenyu (People's Daily Online)    14:51, August 07, 2017

An infinity pool beside China’s National Aquatics Center, better known as “Water Cube”, will officially open to the public on August 8. The pool, located to the north of the aquatics center, is currently undergoing trials.

It is 25 meters long and 15 meters wide. The idea of building a real cube with water beside the Water Cube is the origin of this infinity pool. The pool’s outer walls have a mirror-like surface, reflecting the square, Bird Nest and the Water Cube, and integrate the pool into the surrounding landscape.

The formation of the pool and its water treatment system were both developed by Chinese. The pumps start working every 2 hours for the outdoor pool, a frequency higher than the competition venue in the Water Cube.

It took less than a month to carry out the whole construction, while disassembly will take only 3 to 5 days. Constructed with modularized facilities, disassembled parts can be used again. The technology can also be applied to the construction of sports parks, squares and greenbelts.

The pool will open to the public from mid-June to mid September each year. Currently, the Water Cube receives more than 3,000 guests a day. The pressure on it will be greatly reduced after the infinity pool goes operational.
