A man in Ningbo became an online sensation for his filial behavior. For more than two years, he cooked every meal for his 88-year-old mother, Dushikuaibao (City Express) reported on July 28.

Forty-seven-year-old Li Aijun works in the Ningbo National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone. Every day, he gets up at 5 am and makes congee in an electronic cooker before going out for morning exercise. The congee is very nutritious, made from yellow rice, green millet, corn kernels, sorghum rice, black rice, rye, and quinoa. He comes back at half past six to put the congee on the table, together with some raisins and bread, for his mother. He then drives to work.

Several hours later, Li drives back home to make lunch and the two will have lunch together before he goes back to work. When he finishes work in the afternoon, Li drives to the supermarket to buy some things for dinner.

"My mother is getting old, and she likes eating soft food," Li said with a smile. "Grocery shopping and studying recipes every day after work is a natural and happy thing for me".

Li used to be a layman cook, but things changed on June 2, 2014. He received a call from his older sister informing him that their father was dying.

There were no flight or train tickets left so he drove 1,300 kilometers back to his hometown in Henan province. Unfortunately, his father died before he had arrived. He decided to bring his mother to Ningbo to take care of her. "I feel guilty that I couldn't see my father. I don't want to have any more regrets later on," said Li.

He realized that life is really a countdown: "Time waits for no one! The most terrible thing is that you never know when it will stop ticking," he said.
