On June 21, the life of a woman in her thirties was saved after she fainted beside a group of cardiologists due to a sudden cardiac arrest.

The woman was on a shuttle bus at Beijing Capital International Airport when the incident took place. Someone shouted for help immediately after she fainted. Lucklily enough, a delegation of cardiologists from Chinese PLA General Hospital were on their way to a public service activity in Yan’an, and therefore happened to be on the same bus.

The cardiologists performed a quick exam and realized that the woman had suffered from cardiac arrest, from which less than 1 percent of people are saved. Several doctors started cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and after a short period of time the woman’s pulse recovered.
According to people at the scene of the incident, it took only 20 seconds for the cardiologists to save the woman. She was later taken to the hospital by ambulance. The woman said she had no idea what happened on the bus. She said she has a history of heart disease, and noted that she was especially lucky to faint beside a group of cardiologists.

After saving the woman's life, the cardiologists continued on to Yan’an for their public service activity.
Currently, China has 290 million people suffering from cardiovascular disease, and 5.4 million of them die every year due to sudden cardiac arrest.
