A Siberian musk deer was successfully rescued from a crevice in a local villager's home on May 25 in Huanglong County, Shaanxi province, CCTV reported.

The animal’s vital signs were normal when it was rescued by a wildlife conservation team, and it was soon confirmed by the Shaanxi Institute of Zoology to be a Siberian musk deer, one of China’s first-class protected species. The deer will return to nature after it recovers from the incident.

Adult Siberian musk deer are generally about 0.85 meters long, and weigh 8 to 12 kilograms. This discovery was the first of its kind in Shaanxi province, as the deer lives mainly in Jilin province, Heilongjiang province and Inner Mongolia. Employees at the rescue station disclosed that the discovery of the deer signified the great progress made in the protection of natural forest resources and wildlife on Huanglong Mountain.
