Disabled beggar denies former identity as runaway daughter

(People's Daily Online)    17:08, April 14, 2017

After repeatedly viewing a video of a disabled beggar singing on the street, a Shandong family believed that the subject of the video was actually their missing daughter, Mou Cuicui. However, the woman in the video has denied that claim, stating that she is not from Shandong province and requesting that people stop disturbing her life.

On April 13, a woman surnamed Nie came to a police station in Guiyang, capital city of Guizhou province, admitting that she was the woman in the viral video. At the same time, she vehemently denied that she was Mou Cuicui. Nie added that her begging was voluntary, and that she had not been forced into it by having her arms and legs cut off, as some people have speculated. Nie said that she was born handicapped and has two children with her husband.

The police tested Nie’s DNA to determine once and for all whether she is related to the family in Shandong. The results of the test have shown that they have no biological ties.
