White House calls video of Asian man dragged from United flight ‘troubling’ and ‘disturbing’

By Curtis Stone (People's Daily Online)    10:45, April 12, 2017

The White House has responded to the video showing an Asian man being violently dragged down an aisle with blood coming from his face on a United Airlines flight from Chicago.

During Tuesday’s daily White House press briefing, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer was asked if the government should investigate United Airlines, and the industry as a whole, as it relates to passenger treatment. In answering the question, Spicer called the incident “unfortunate.” In talking about the video, Spicer said, “It is troubling to see how that was handled.”

Spicer said he is sure U.S. President Donald Trump has seen the video. When a reporter asked about the president’s reaction to the shocking video, Spicer responded, “I don’t think anyone looks at that video and isn’t a little disturbed that another human being is treated that way”.

Spicer then recalled some of the more gruesome details.”Watching another human being dragged down an aisle, watching blood come from their face…this probably could have been handled a little bit better when you’re talking about another human being.”

The disturbing video and United’s insensitive response sparked a social media storm. On China’s top micro-blogging site Weibo, many of China’s netizens remain shocked and angered by the horrifying incident. Some Weibo users want to know why, if Trump has seen the video, he has not posted it on his social media accounts. Others have urged him to quickly post it, given his history of frequent use of social media.

After United’s stock dropped, wiping out $255 million off the market cap, United finally apologized. “I deeply apologize to the customer forcibly removed and to all the customers aboard. No one should ever be mistreated this way,” United CEO Oscar Munoz said in a statement on Tuesday.

But the apology is not sitting well with many of China’s netizens. One Weibo user called the U.S. airline “shameless.” “Your stock falls and you lose money. Now you apologize. You have no sense of shame!”
