Keeping up a sound and steady pace of development, the Chinese sports industry was booming in 2016. The National Fitness Program (2016-2020) and the 13th Five-year Plan on the Sports Industry were both issued in 2016 to offer a clear direction for China's national strategy of ensuring public fitness and the development of the sports industry. China's General Administration of Sport, jointly with many other national governmental departments, also published policies and plans on winter sports. It released a plan on Nov. 2, 2016 to speed up the construction of winter sports infrastructure, aiming to build at least 500 skating rinks before the 2022 Winter Olympic Games. Four of six ski resorts are built in Shennongjia. During season 2016-2017, Shennongjia Ski resort accommodated more than 120,000 tourists, up 35 percent from 2015. A winter sports training base is planned to construct in Shennongjia for traning professional athletes. Around 2,000 people regularly participate in skating sports at five rinks in Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province every year. (Xinhua/Xiao Yijiu) |
