Imported canned air lacks regulations, scientific basis: experts

(People's Daily Online)    17:09, March 16, 2017

More and more Chinese people are buying expensive imported canned air online, but experts have stated that there are no domestic regulations on such products, and the canned air may not have any positive impact on human health, Thepaper.cn reported on March 16.

As China is troubled by serious air pollution, the founder of Breathe Canada discovered a business opportunity selling compressed air extracted from Canada. One can retails for 139 RMB. John Green, an Englishman in Basel, Switzerland, recently started selling what is purportedly pure air from the mountains of Switzerland. A 1-liter can goes for $167. According to Swiss news site The Local, this is the highest asking price for such a product anywhere in the world. Vitality Air, a Swiss company, finds its customers mainly in China, and the company's sales volume reached 10,000 cans in less than eight months, with 100 cans sold each day of the 2016 Spring Festival.

However, experts have pointed out that there are no domestic regulations over the industry, and there is no scientific basis for the health benefits of the products. These products are not recommended, as they may not have undergone sterilization and disinfection, according to experts.
