Shuibei village of Shenzhen, Guangdong province, has more than 2,000 jewelry enterprises, 1,000 individually-owned jewelry businesses, and 20 jewelry trading centers within an area of 1.1 million square meters, creating over 70 percent of the jewelry volume of trade in China every year.
“When you see people carrying a black bag, it might have gold bars in it. People don’t need to worry, because the public security here is sound. There are surveillance cameras every 20 meters, and policemen are patrolling the streets,” said Luo Sheng, a factory employee in the village.

The gold is manufactured in Shenzhen’s jewelry enterprises and factories, and then sold all over the world.
Huang Haiyun, a jewelry factory manager, said more than a dozen technological and examination procedures are needed for a final product. The factory can also offer exclusive and personalized services, producing jewelry according to a customer’s design, and then transport the final product across the country the next day.
