A woman surnamed Tao from the city of Wuhan in central China opened a quintuple-yolked egg on Jan. 23, local media reported. From the outside, the egg looks just like any other, but inside it contained five yolks averaging 1.5 centimeters across.
Jin Guofeng, an associate professor at Huangzhong Agricultural University, said quintuple-yolked eggs are extremely rare, and may be caused by ovulation disorders in chickens. He added that the egg is still edible once cooked.
