A rammed earth construction base containing inscribed bones and tortoise shells was recently found by an archaeological team in Shaanxi province. Two previously discovered yards and this recently finding have together formed the largest and the most delicate architectural complex in the Zhouyuan relic region.
Experts believe the complex used to be a major political center in the Western Zhou period (from the 11th century BC to 771 BC). The most recent discovery is located in the Fengchu architectural complex, which is at the center of Zhouyuan relic region.
According to experts, the ongoing archaeological discoveries and research at the Fengchu complex further confirm the idea that this area used to be the residence of Zhou Dynasty royal families. This knowledge is useful for people to better understand the architecture and inscriptions found on bones and tortoise shells.
