Tang Hong, 20, is a sophomore at Chongqing Vocational College of Media. Instead of enjoying the colorful university life like other girls of her age, Tang assumed the responsibility of taking care of her blind mother while studying.
Tang was born in 1994 and she has a younger sister. Tang's mother became blind due to an accident when Tang was five. Her father at first did some small jobs to support the family and later gradually lost the ability of work due to disease. Tang learned to take care of the whole family when she was still a child.
When Tang knew that she had passed the college entrance exam, she felt both happy and worried, as she could not be far away from her disabled mother. Knowing about the situation, the college offered Tang and her mother a room free of charge, as well as a piece of land where Tang and her mother could grow some vegetables.
Tang studies hard and she wins the scholarship of the Ministry of Education every year. With the subsistence allowances from the government and the wages from the library work, Tang lives a hard life with her mother.
Tang hopes to be a village official after graduation and make money to give treatment to her mother's eyes, to let her see this colorful world again.
