BEIJING, May 30 (Xinhua) -- A special conference of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) opened on Thursday in northwest China's Xi'an City for promoting the sustainable development of Asia.

Running under the theme of "Promote green development and build a beautiful Asia together," the two-day conference has attracted representatives from about 50 political parties from Asian countries. About 200 people from Latin American and African parties are also participating as observers.

Asian political parties should seek sustainable peace in Asia, common development, friendly cooperation as well as mutual benefit and win-win situation, said Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao while addressing the event's opening ceremony.

Green development is the trend of world development and a new platform for cooperation among political parties. Asian countries should attach importance to environmental protection, energy reservation and reasonable consumption to build a beautiful Asia together, he said.

The ICAPP is a forum of political parties from Asian and Oceanic countries. It was initiated by Philippines political party the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats in September 2000.

The Communist Party of China hosted the organization's general assembly in 2004 in Beijing, as well as two special conferences in 2010 and 2011.
