China hopes UN meeting promotes sustainable Asia-Pacific development

BEIJING, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Assistant Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu will head a delegation to attend the 69th Commission Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok, a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said Friday.

The 69th UN ESCAP Commission Session will be held at the UN Conference Center in Bangkok from April 25 to May 1. The theme has been set as, "Building resilience to natural disasters and major economic crises."

Spokeswoman Hua Chunying said Ma will attend the Ministerial Segment of the annual session, which will be held from April 29 to May 1.

Ma will also deliver a keynote speech at the Ministerial Panel on Sustainable Development and the Development Agenda beyond 2015, she told a daily press briefing.

China hopes in-depth discussions will be carried out on building resilience to natural disasters and major economic crises, sustainable development and the development agenda beyond 2015, said Hua.

"We hope the meeting will achieve the objective of strengthening mutual understanding and jointly promoting inclusiveness and sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region," she said.
