BEIJING, April 1 (Xinhua) -- China hopes discussions can yield a consensus on the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty, a spokesman for China's Foreign Ministry said Monday.
Spokesman Hong Lei made the remarks at a regular press briefing when asked to comment on a consensus on the treaty not being reached at a recent UN conference.
Hong said China has participated positively in the treaty negotiation process under the UN framework and maintained a responsible and constructive position.
China will continue to make efforts in regulating the conventional weapons trade around the world and fight illegal arms trade and trafficking, he added.
