A man in Fangcheng County in central China's Henan Province has been arrested for allegedly raping three schoolgirls since 2003 and causing one dead, according to a report on enorth.com.cn.
Police spent 45 days on a DNA test to confirm their speculation that all the three rape cases were connected with Li Wenpeng.
Police said Li committed the first rape in 2003 when he tied up a 14-year-old girl with tape and raped her. Two years later, he raped a 16-year-old girl and caused her to die of asphyxiation with a towel stuffed into her mouth. On September 9 this year, Li pulled an 18-year-old student from her bike as she was heading home and raped her in a roadside corn field.
Police detectives believed the three rape cases point to the same person.
The report said Li has confessed that he always preyed on young girls traveling alone. He would rent a room near the spot of his planned rape the week before. That's why he could dodge the extensive search by police after the crime.
His neighbors couldn't believe he was a serial rapist. They said Li Wenpeng has a happy family with two sons and one daughter.
