MOSCOW, July 2 (ChinaMil) -- Gen. Fang Fenghui, member of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) who was paying an official visit to Russia, met with Senior Gen. Sergey Shoygu, Russian defense minister, on July 1, 2013 in Moscow, capital of Russia.
Fang Fenghui said that China and Russia are good neighbors, good friends and good partners. The relations between the Chinese and Russian militaries have been maintaining a momentum of healthy and stable development for years, as evidenced by good cooperation and remarkable results. The Chinese side is willing to work together with the Russian side to earnestly implement the consensus reached by the heads of the two countries, and on the basis of consolidating the existing cooperation results actively expand new areas, cooperation contents and cooperation forms, and further strengthen the exchanges and cooperation in such fields as high-level reciprocal visits, professional exchanges, personnel contacts and joint military exercises, so as to push forward constant development of the relations between the two militaries under the new situation.
Shoygu said that the successful meeting between the heads of the two countries in March 2013 reflected the high level and particularity of Russia-China comprehensive and strategic partnership of cooperation. Currently, international and regional peace and stability are facing a series of challenges. As friendly neighbors and comprehensive and strategic partners of cooperation, Russia and China are supposed to strengthen military contacts and cooperation, and constantly deepen the relations between the two militaries, so as to make positive contributions to maintaining regional security and stability.
Before the meeting, the Russian side held a welcome ceremony for Fang Fenghui.
On the same day, Fang Fenghui also held talks with Senior Gen. Valery Gerasimov, chief of general staff of the Russian Armed Forces. They had a frank exchange of views and reached broad consensus on the relations between the two countries and the two militaries, international and regional situations and other issues of common concern. They also jointly announced that the two militaries would hold two joint exercises on the sea and on the land respectively, and approved related documents.
