Laos's deputy prime minister and defense minister meets with Qi Jianguo

Vientiane, May 31, (ChinaMil) -- Douangchay Phichith, deputy prime minister and minister of national defense of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, met with Qi Jianguo, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), on May 29, 2013 in Vientiane, capital of Laos. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on the regional security situation as well as the relations between the two countries and the two militaries.

Douangchay expressed that the Lao side is grateful to the Chinese side for its long-term strong support and assistance for the building of Laos and its military. The Lao side attaches great importance to the development of Laos-China relations, and is willing to further deepen the cooperation between the two militaries.

Qi Jianguo expressed that China-Laos friendship has a deep historical foundation and a solid political foundation, and the bilateral cooperation in various fields has achieved fruitful results over the years. The two militaries have carried out pragmatic cooperation in such fields as high-level reciprocal visits, personnel training, academy building and frontier defense management and control. The Chinese side is willing to make joint efforts with the Lao side to constantly strengthen strategic communication and deepen pragmatic cooperation, so as to push forward in-depth development of the relations between the two countries and the two militaries.

On the same day, Qi Jianguo also held talks with Chantung, deputy chief of general staff of the Lao People's Army, and they reached broad consensus on deepening the cooperation between the two militaries.
