BEIJING, April 25 (Xinhua) -- A symposium on former Chinese President Hu Jintao's remarks on building a harmonious socialist society hit the nation's bookstores on Thursday.

The work, compiled by the CCCPC Party Literature Research Office, collects 40 articles, with a total length of 130,000 characters, about Hu's important remarks on this subject. Some of the articles are published for the first time.

It features Hu's speech at a national conference on prevention and control of SARS epidemic on July 28, 2003 as the opener, and concludes with his remarks on strengthening social construction in his report delivered at the 18th Communist Party of China (CPC) National Congress.

Building a harmonious socialist society is a major task with strategic significance raised by the CPC in a new development stage for the nation, in view of the larger objectives of realizing socialism with Chinese characteristics and a moderately wealthy society in a balanced manner.

Hu has expounded the significance, guiding principles, objectives and implementation plans of achieving these goals, enriching the Marxist theory on the construction of socialism.

An official news release about the symposium said Hu's theories on building a harmonious socialist society constitute an important chapter in the Scientific Outlook on Development, and provide guidance in the country's endeavor to build a moderately wealthy society, promote modernization and realize the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of Chinese nation.
