The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Beijing has grown more than 9 percent during the past five years, and its per capita GDP has reached the level of middle- and high- income countries, according to acting mayor Wang Anshun’s government work report at the first session of the 14th Beijing National People’s Congress on Jan. 22.
The preliminary estimate shows the city’s GDP has reached 1.8 trillion yuan in 2012, or an average increase of 9 percent during the past five years. The GDP per capita grew to 14,000 U.S. dollars and has achieved the level of middle- and high-income countries. The city has moved into a new level for the economy development.
Social fixed-asset investment in Beijing amounted to more than 646 billion yuan in 2012, an annual average increase of 15 percent, according to the latest statistics. The retail sales of social consumer goods reached 770 billion yuan, twice than that in 2007. Income for urban and rural is 36,000 yuan and 16,000 respectively, up 7.5 percent and 8.8 percent from the previous year respectively.
