Liang Guanglie, state councilor and minister of national defense of the People's Republic of China (PRC), met with Abdullah, commander of the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO), and his party on the afternoon of January 21, 2013 in Beijing.

Liang Guanglie said that China and Oman enjoy time-honored friendly relations as evidenced by frequent high-level reciprocal visits and fruitful results in economy and trade cooperation since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1978. The Chinese and Omani militaries have also maintained good cooperative relations as evidenced by constant reciprocal visits among delegations and personnel exchanges. The Chinese side expresses its appreciation and gratitude to the Omani side for its great support to the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) in the escort operations in the Gulf of Aden and the waters off the Somali coast.

Liang Guanglie expressed that the Chinese military attaches importance to its relations with the Omani military, and is willing to make joint efforts with the Omani side to constantly push forward the bilateral friendly and cooperative relations to a new high.

Abdullah agreed with Liang Guanglie's comments on the relations between the two countries and the two militaries. He hoped that the visit would further build closer relations between the two militaries and turn over a new page in the cooperation between the two navies.
