After a 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit Lushan County of Ya'an City in southwest China’s Sichuan Province, Bright Food (Group) Co., Ltd. (“Bright Food” for short) immediately took action to collect disaster relief materials and had them delivered in batches to the disaster-stricken areas via local and Shanghai disaster relief organizations, fully demonstrating its great sense of social responsibility as a large state-owned enterprise.

On April 20, the very day of earthquake, Bright Diary speedily gathered 10,000 boxes of Bright Pure Milk worth 600,000 yuan from Chengdu Branch, as well as its manufacture factories in Dezhou City of Shandong Province and other locations to the disaster-hit areas, while guaranteed the normal supply of milk in its local branch in Sichuan Province.

On the morning of April 21, after contacting local disaster relief organizations in Ya’an County, Shanghai Maling Aquarius Co., Ltd. dispatched a carriage of Maling canned pork luncheon meat worth 100,000 yuan from its factory based in Mianyang City to the disaster-hit areas of Lushan County, Ya’an City.

On April 21, Bright Diary donated, through the Ministry of Civil Affairs and Student Diary Food Office in Sichuan Province, 10,000 boxes of Bright Student Milk to the disaster-hit areas.

On April 22, Shanghai Maling Aquarius donated, after getting contact with a local donation organization in Shanghai, military compressed biscuits worth RMB0.1 million to the disaster-hit areas again.

Top priority given by and timely deployment from the leadership

Soon after the earthquake happened, Mr. Wang Zongnan, Party Secretary and Chairman of Bright Food, contacted heads in Sichuan-based subsidiaries of Shanghai Tangjiu (Group) Co., Ltd., Bright Diary, Shanghai Maling Aquarius, Wusi Co., Ltd. and other relevant departments via phone calls and short messages to gain the detailed information of such subsidiaries and deploy emergency response plans for the earthquake.

Firstly, Chairman Wang called for immediate action from the heads of related enterprises, urging them to keep informed of the damages caused by the earthquake. If any, the relevant departments should, he expressed, go all out to bring the damages to a minimal degree, so as to protect the safety and interests of concerned staff and ensure all things go right there.

Secondly, Chairman Wang demanded the Group to fully carry out earnestly social responsibility in disaster relief efforts. All subsidiaries, especially these based in disaster-hit areas, should make every effort to deliver diary and canned food as well as compressed biscuits to victims in dire need. In addition to seeing to it that all internal emergency response measures were smoothly adopted, special efforts should be made to deliver badly-needed disaster relief assistance to people in these areas and stabilize the local food market.

Thirdly, a disaster reporting and information communication mechanism should be set up in the Public Relationship Department and the Office of the Group, ensuring that all information run smoothly among Bright Food in the interest of the implementation of emergency response plans and the delivery of disaster relief materials to the disaster-hit areas.

All-go-out efforts for normal operation and disaster relief

Subsidiaries located in the earthquake-stricken areas are Sichuan Quanxing Distillery Co., Ltd. in Qionglai City, sub-branch of Bright Diary in Chengdu City, canned food factory of Shanghai Maling Aquarius in Mianyang City, Jinpu Factory in Chongqing City, and Sunjoy Hotel of May 4th Co., Ltd. in Chengdu City.

Affected by the earthquake, telecommunication was once interrupted in the sub-branches of the Group, which thus lost contact with the outside world. Burned with great anxiety, the leadership of Quanxing Distillery and heads of related departments hastily headed for the manufacture bases in Datang and Chongzhou in spite of great risks of aftershock. It was relieved for them to know that no casualty was reported in such manufacture bases, and the staff members there were emotionally stable after the disaster. Though hundreds of small grey tiles fell from the workshop roofs, fortunately, no crack was found in the wall, no leakage was spotted in base wine, and water and gas supply still kept running well. After confirming that the power supply and boilers in factories had been properly shut down, the leadership asked the staff to go back home to take care of their family members in such a difficult time. At present, Quanxing Distillery is stepping up its pace to restore damaged architectures.

In addition to stepping up its safety measures for normal operation, the sub-branch of Bright Diary now actively manufactures and dispatches emergency relief materials for the victims. Staying together with the local staff in Chengdu, the leaders of Sunjoy under May 4th Co., Ltd. were busy trying to keep normal operation and emergency relief efforts progressing smoothly. The two factories of Shanghai Maling Aquarius in Mianyang and Chongqing cities, which were basically unaffected by the earthquake, are now fully engaged in manufacturing military compressed biscuits and canned meat, making their due contribution to supporting the disaster-hit areas and stabilizing the local market.
