Wall collapse kills 12, injures 7 in N China

TAIYUAN, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Twelve construction workers were killed and seven others injured after their make-shift house was buried by a collapsed wall in north China's Shanxi Province, local authorities said Wednesday.

The accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at a construction site of a coal cleaning plant of Dacheng Liyuan Coalification Co., Ltd. in Pingshu Village, Shouyang County, according to sources with the government of Jinzhong City, which administers the county.

An initial investigation indicated that the wall was toppled as a result of rainstorms, sources said.

Rescue work has ended by Wednesday morning. A further investigation into the cause fo the accident is under way.
