BEIJING, July 9 (ChinaMil) -- The 14th escort taskforce of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLAN) successfully completed its mission to escort three Chinese and foreign merchant ships at 20:00 on July 6, 2013, local time, marking that the Chinese naval escort taskforces have successfully completed a total of 600 naval escort missions. During these missions, a total of 5,227 ships were escorted, among them more than 50 percent were foreign ships.
To date, the PLAN has successively dispatched a total of 37 warships in 14 batches to the Gulf of Aden and waters off the Somali coast to implement the naval escort missions since the start of the 1st Chinese naval escort taskforce which left Sanya of south China's Hainan province on December 26, 2008, fully ensuring the safety of all the escorted ships and personnel on board, according to the news release.
During these escort missions, the officers and men of the Chinese naval escort taskforces effectively ensured the safety of the Chinese ships passing through the Gulf of Aden and waters off the Somali coast and personnel on board, and ships carrying humanitarian supplies of international organizations including the United Nations World Food Program, winning widespread praise from home and abroad.
