China has five major coastal tourist resorts, namely the one along the Bohai Bay, the one in the Yangtze River Delta, the one in the Pearl River Delta, the coast on the west side of the Taiwan Strait, and the Hainan Island, according to Xinhua reports. Free-duty shopping has made Hainan one of the few islands worldwide offering such a benefit for travelers. Since the policy took effect in 2011, many new tourists have included Hainan on their itinerary.
The shopping fever has proven so popular that it even triggered significant rise in tourist agency prices for a trip to Hainan.
