Mahfoudh also criticized the opposition coalition for having "a double face -- the first is positive, represented by its attempt to unite the defragmented opposition groups, and the second is negative, represented by its request for a military intervention."
He said he believes that the coalition is practically unable to lead the next stage, adding that the opposition military councils aim to prolong the crisis and fighting in Syria.
"There would be no loser or conqueror in the raging fighting. The only loser is the Syrian people and the only winner is the enemies of the country," he suggested.
Syrian Vice President Farouk al-Sharaa also ruled out the possibility of any party being able to settle the conflict militarily on the ground.
In a recent interview with the Lebanese al-Akhbar newspaper, al- Sharaa proposed a "historic settlement" combining regional states and members of the UN Security Council.
"The solution has to be Syrian, but through a historic settlement, which would include the main regional countries, and the members of UN Security Council. This settlement must include stopping all shapes of violence, and the creation of a national unity government with wide powers. This should be accompanied by the resolution of sensitive issues related to the lives of people and their legitimate demands," He added.
