S.Korea-U.S. combined forces command to complete relocation in October
SEOUL, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- The South Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command (CFC) will complete the relocation of its headquarters by the end of October, the South Korean Defense Ministry said Tuesday.
The CFC headquarters will be relocated to Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek, some 70 km south of the capital Seoul, from the Yongsan garrison in central Seoul where the CFC had been headquartered for the past 44 years.
About 700 South Korean and U.S. service members of the CFC will move to the key U.S. military base in Pyeongtaek from early October to complete the relocation by the end of this month, the defense ministry said.
The new CFC headquarters building was reportedly built last month with a budget of 32.2 billion won (22.5 million U.S. dollars).
The two countries agreed late last year to move the CFC headquarters by the end of this year.
