Ford September U.S. sales down 8.9 percent

CHICAGO, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Ford Motor Company said on Tuesday that it sold 142,644 vehicles in the United States in September this year, down 8.9 percent year on year, as a result of continued supply constraints.

To be specific, the company's truck sales were 68,299, down 18.3 percent; SUV sales were 70,887, up 0.9 percent; and EV sales were 4,691, up 197.3 percent, according to figures published on its website.

Ford's vehicle sales in the third quarter, nevertheless, went up 16 percent.

In September, F-150 Lightning continued as America's best-selling electric pickup, and E-Transit was the best-selling electric van. F-Series through September continued as America's best-selling truck, totaling 467,307 vehicle sales.

The Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker's sales of hybrid vehicles totaled 74,046 vehicles through September, up 22.6 percent over last year.

The U.S. automaker sold a total of 1,380,494 vehicles in the first nine months this year, down 1.2 percent year on year.
