Gas price in U.S. Los Angeles reaches record high for second consecutive day
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- The price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Los Angeles, in the western U.S. state of California, rose about 2 cents overnight to 6.49 U.S. dollars Tuesday, hitting a new record high for the second consecutive day.
One week ago, Los Angeles residents were paying 5.96 dollars per gallon and one year ago, the price was just 4.42 dollars per gallon, according to AAA.
The national average pump price rose eight cents over the past week to 3.80 dollars Tuesday, but in California, the surging curve is specially steep, where the current average gas price is 6.41 U.S. dollars.
The state average price is about 2 cents lower than the record high set in June, but as of Tuesday, at least 11 counties in California have higher average gas prices than Los Angeles.
In Mono, a remote county neighbouring the state of Nevada and always seeing the most expensive gas price in California, the average price on Tuesday is 7.15 dollars per gallon.
"The regional differences in gas prices are stark at the moment, with prices on the West Coast hitting 6 dollars a gallon and higher, while Texas and Gulf Coast states have prices dipping below 3 dollars in some areas," Andrew Gross, a AAA spokesperson, said in a statement Monday.
"At least six California refineries are undergoing maintenance, and there is limited pipeline supply to the West Coast from locations east of the Rockies," the AAA said.
