BEIJING, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official said Wednesday that respecting and protecting human rights is an important achievement of human civilization and a consistent pursuit of the CPC and Chinese government.
Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at the 2019 South-South Human Rights Forum.
The CPC has always taken the pursuit of the wellbeing of people as its original aspiration, and a fundamental principle of the socialist system with Chinese characteristics has always been to protect people's interests, said Huang.
Huang said China has found a development path suited to its actual conditions and gained invaluable experience in the past 70 years.
Huang called on the world's developing countries to work together to promote progress in the cause of human rights and build a community with a shared future for humanity.
More than 300 officials, experts, scholars and diplomats from over 80 countries, regions and international organizations attended the forum.
