Beijing Daxing International Airport creates pioneering barrier-free system

Beijing Daxing International Airport, which will begin operation later this month, will impress the world not only as the biggest airport in the world, but also with its ingenious designs. Out of all these, the barrier-free system could be called pioneering.

For the first time, the airport classifies people with disabilities into three groups: those having difficulty in moving, those with vision problems and those with hearing impairment, according to Liu Cong, designer for the barrier-free system of Beijing Daxing International Airport.

Additionally, barrier-free facilities are categorized innovatively into eight systems, including barrier-free parking, channels, public transportation, special inspection, service facilities, boarding bridge, identity information and artificial service.

The airport has also opened roadside barrier-free parking spaces, ramps where driveways and sidewalks are connected, telephones designed for people to call for assistance and comprehensive information counters as part of the supporting services.
