BEIJING, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Afghan president's national security adviser Hamdullah Mohib Thursday in Beijing.

China and Afghanistan are traditional friendly neighbors, Wang said, noting that China firmly supports the Afghan government's effort on maintaining national security and stability and pushing forward the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process.

China has always maintained that Afghan issues should be ultimately decided by the Afghan people. All relevant sides should respect Afghanistan's sovereignty, the will of the Afghan people and the Afghan government's role, said Wang.

"China is ready to continue to provide necessary support to the Afghan reconciliation and peaceful reconstruction process," he added.

Mohib said that Afghanistan appreciates China's constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability, and is willing to continue to maintain close exchanges with China on the development of the Afghan situation.
