China will firmly carry out reform and opening-up policies at its own pace no matter what pressures the United States exerts on the country, said the Ministry of Commerce on Thursday.
China will continue to promote the multilateral trading system and free trade, the ministry added.
The ministry said it is right for the two sides to consult on the basis of good faith and China will maintain contacts with the US for further arrangements.
After adding tariffs on some products, the price of imported consumer goods rose, the ministry said.
China, confident that the foreign trade will maintain steady growth throughout the year, will turn the challenges into opportunities via transformation and upgrade, the ministry added.
