China's first domestically built large passenger jet C919 successfully took off for its maiden flight at 2:00 p.m. (0600 GMT) on Friday from Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
The aircraft's manufacturer, Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC), said the maiden flight is expected to last 90 minutes with a maximum speed of 170 knots (314.84 kilometers per hour).
The C919 is a narrow-body aircraft designed to carry 168 passengers. It has a standard range of 4,075 kilometers and an extended range of 5,555 kilometers.
The C919 is China's answer to the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320. A total of 570 orders for the aircraft have already been received from 23 domestic and overseas clients. (Via CGTN)
