Bloemfontein, Oct 27 (People’s Daily Online) - Free State Premier Ace Magashule suggested that the province should hold China Day annually to learn more about Chinese culture and celebrate friendship with China, as he met with Chinese Consul General to Johannesburg Ruan Ping in Bloemfontein on Wednesday to discuss the stimulation of bilateral trade and economic development and further collaboration between South Africa and China.

The two counterparts met earlier in April when Ruan just took office. Ruan promised that he would pay a second visit leading a Chinese delegation to promote business opportunities and tourism resources that lie in the province.

Ruan said he would strive to deepen mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples, facilitate mutual visits, and promote the ties and cooperation between China and the Free State province.

Magashule encouraged Chinese companies to invest in the province, with the convenient location, tax incentives, preferential electricity and water rates in the Special Economic Zone in Harrismith.

A fully functional China-South African Agricultural Technology Demonstration Centre has been set up in Gariep, the south part of the province in 2009. Emanating from the Fish Hatchery venture, six fish farms have been established in the neighbouring towns of Bethulie, Springfontein, Koffiefontein, Fouriesmith, Zastron and Petrusburg.

Meanwhile, more than 300 Free State students have been enrolled in various universities in China to pursue their studies in obtaining scarce skills needed to develop in SA, such as Clinical Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering, Aeronautics and Urban Planning.
