HK Sees New Surge in External Trade in November

Hong Kong saw a new surge in external merchandise trade in November this year, according to figures released Thursday by the Census and Statistics Department.

However, the figures also showed that the growth rates of the trade aggregates moderated, against a distinctly higher base of comparison in the same month last year.

The value of total exports of goods (comprising re-exports and domestic exports) increased by 8.7 percent in November 2000 over a year earlier to 135.6 billion HK dollars.

Within this total, the value of re-exports rose by 10.9 percent, while that of domestic exports decreased by 6.6 percent. The value of imports of goods increased by 11.6 percent in November 2000 over a year earlier.
