New Device for Processing Micron Particles
China's first optic device for micro-operating-and-processing of micron particles has come into appearance in the University of Science & Technology of China. Tang Xiaowei and the other ten scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences deem it that the research carries a very significant weight in science and practical value, and it has reached the world advanced level in the same series of products.
The "optic micro-operating-and-processing" is a new technology, a combination of laser and mechanical engineering. As compared with the traditional technology of operating and processing by machine, it resorts to laser instead for clipping, operating and processing of micro-objects with no mechanical contact and no damage done to particles on the outside. And what is more it can make operation and processing in the internal of an object without any damage to the particles on its surface. Such an optic device is especially suitable for doing researches on the particles of a living creature. It is an important device for the study of life-process as based on cells and macromolecules, promising a bright vista in application in the fields of cell biology, molecular immunology and gene engineering.
