BluePoint Linux in Go-ahead for Listing in Hong Kong Second Board

The Chinese Linux operating system provider BluePoint plans to go public in Hong Kong Second Board for its embedded business sector in the second quarter of next year, Kang Zhe, the chairman of the company said on the LinuxWorld China Conference & Expo in Beijing recently.

"We are aiming to raise fund to develop more technologies and high-tech products." Kang said.

The business of BluePoint is focused on Linux operating system, embedded Linux OS(Operating System) and related services and support, according to the company's officials.

``With the heating-up of Linux system in China, market competition among domestic Linux provider will be much more violent at the end of this year. Only those with sound business model can survive," he said.

Unlike many Chinese Linux operating systems that rely on an external Chinese language platform to support Chinese language, the company developed the first localized kernel of Chinese Linux operating system, which supports multiple languages.

BluePoint Corp. sold nearly 100,0000 licenses to computer producers for pre-installing on PC every month. It sold 30,000 licenses to TCL 600,610 and 718 series in July this year.

Its desktop operating system now holds 80 per cent of China's OEM market. Company figures indicated that BluePoint is now pre-installed in computers by several China's major computer makers, including Great Wall, TCL, and Xiahua Shanbao.

"Though we did well in the desktop OS market, we plan to turn to develop business sectors such as server and information appliances with embedded Linux." the chairman said.

Currently a dozen of Linux system provider have rolled out their own desktop Linux operating system, such as Red Flag Linux and Turbo Linux.

"Linux is like a biologic chain with many links. There is no need for producers to rush for the desktop market share." Kang said.

"The selling point may also lie in Linux server and Linux-embedded OS information appliances such as PDAs(Personal Digital Assistants) and residential gateways, because of Linux's small size, low-price and stability compared with windows."

BluePoint has successfully developed ``Bluepoint Embedded'', the embedded solution for Internet appliances which can be used in Set-top Box, WebTV, Thin-Clients and other Internet appliances. In addition, the company has

developed MiniGUI(lightweigh Graphic User Interfaces library), which provides a small windows system support library and can be used anywhere windows CE can be used.

Shenzhen-based Bluepoint Linux Software Corp, founded in 1999, is the first Linux provider in China to get listing approval. And it ranked number one in sales by Federal, the largest Chinese software vendor. (Chinadaily)
