MII to Close 100 Paging Frequencies
The Ministry of Information Industry (MII) recently announced in Beijing that it would shut down over 100 wireless paging frequencies in order to secure the normal operation of aviation and navigation systems. An official with the Ministry of Information Industry said at a national TV conference that the Ministry and other relevant departments had asked all the paging stations to register again.
Presently, there are 389 registered paging frequencies and 51,827 points providing paging service and 1,479 paging stations.
Specialists point out that the number of Chinese beeper users has ranked first in the world. However, The rapid development of paging service has given rise to some problems, the most striking one is the serious interference to aviation and navigation systems. In some cases, it even caused grave accident.
Although closing 100-odd paging frequencies can greatly reduce the radio interference to aviation and navigation systems, a better measure is needed to fundamentally solve a host of related potential problems.
