Sinopec Goes On-line

China Petroleum & Chemical Corp has officially launched its e-commerce website www.sinopec-ec.com.cn , said Li Yizhong, chairman of the company, on Monday.

According to Li, the volume of business concluded on the website has amounted to 200 million yuan (US$24.1 million) since it opened on August 15.

The website is expected to prop up the company's purchases and sales. It provides on-line services such as information collection and release, on-line inquiries, price quotations and public bidding.

The first batch of on-line purchases included steel, equipment and accessories. Total annual purchases this year are expected to amount to 2 billion yuan (US$241 million).

In addition, the company also established a system to manage their sales network for refined oil products, which covers 19 provinces and cities. "We will further promote the implementation of the IC system in gas stations by upgrading the new information management system," said Cao Xianghong, vice-president of the company.

The company is also ready to launch on-line contracting and payment via the website.

China Petroleum & Chemical Corp is a shareholding company launched by China Petrochemical Corp (Sinopec) early this year. It is to be listed soon on the stock markets in Hong Kong, New York and London.
