Video game sales in China between January and June have generated revenue of 99.78 billion yuan (14.85 billion US dollars), leading to a 26.7% growth year on year.

Also according to the Chinese State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, the number of Chinese gamers has surpassed the 500-million mark by the end June. While game players with PC terminals are declining, players with smart phone and other mobile devices are on the rise.

China-developed Internet games have netted 3.99 billion US dollars from overseas markets in the first half of this year, up 57.7% year on year. Video games with Chinese elements have become the main driver for game industry expansion in overseas markets. Some established Chinese game developers have opened up offices in places like Singapore and Germany.

Some Chinese video games like World of Legends, Saga of Hot Blood and Dragon Valley have players in more than 100 countries and regions, boasting upwards of one million online players at anytime simultaneously. World of Legends has ranked among the world's top 10 games with most active players for quite some years now.

"As it is, the game industry in China is in the forefront of the global development of game industry. Chinese game industry is leading the development trends, be it the market size or development tempo," said Xie Fei, chief executive officer of Shanda Games.
