Beijing, May 30 (People's Daily Online) Nepal welcomes enhancing cooperation with China and looks forward to more comprehensive cooperation in the future.

During the ceremony that celebrates National Day of Nepal which was held in its embassy in Beijing Wednesday, H.E. Dr. Mahesh Kumar Maskey,Ambassador of Nepal to the People's Republic of China said "The enhanced economic cooperation between two countries will surely open doors of all round development of Nepal."

He also echoed support for "One China" policy. He said "We are firm and committed to our principled stand of not allowing Nepalese territory to be used against China's core interests."

In the speech, he recalled the enduring friendship between China and Nepal that could be traced back to the 5th century when sages and saints travelled both Nepal and China in the pursuit of peace and wisdom.

Last year, Chinese premier Wen Jiaobao visited Nepal. Eight agreements were signed and the top leaders of both countries met and talked about various areas of cooperation. The same year 7787 Nepali products were made duty free for export to China.

This year, former Nepalese Prime Minister Mr. Prachanda visited China and met with President Xi Jinping. In a few days H.E. Vice President Mr. Parmanand Jha of Nepal is also visiting China.

Ambassador Maskey said, "All these high level visits will further strengthen the friendship between the two countries."

Yuan Guiren, Chinese Minister for Education, addressed the ceremony.

Other guests attending the ceremony include Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin, Under Secretary General of United Nation Gyan Chandra Acharya.

Nepal's National Day is also its Republic Day. Following a decade of armed political struggle and the peaceful historical Peoples Movement of 2006, the era of 240 years of Monarchy came to an end and Nepal was declared a Federal Democratic Republic making people their own sovereign.
